What is Mizrahi Dance?
Mizrahi dance is a umbrella term to describe a variety of folkloric dances that are unique to Jewish communities of the Middle East and
North Africa.
Why is it important?
As Raqs Sharqi (belly dance) teachers and performers, we are responsible for representing the countries our dance style comes from. It's important to understand the diversity of the middle east and the ethno-religious groups (like the Jews) who have contributed to the music and dance that we know and love. Also, it's important to make space for jewish dancers (especially those who come from MENA countries). These dancers bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from their cultures and add a much needed diverse voice to our community.
