More about the artists:
Soumaya MaRose:
Soumaya is passionate about sharing her culture. Soumaya was born and raised as a Morrocan woman in Belgium after her parents came to Europe from Tangier in the 1970’s. Her experience with Moroccan music and raks sharqi started very young, when she begged her mother to take her to Morroccan weddings. From the beginning, her community said, "dik Soumaya, ouhda shataha,” meaning "This Soumaya is a dancer". When she was 13, Soumaya performed at shows, weddings and events, and learned to play tabla and drums. She became a member of "El Housna", a Moroccan girl-band, and for 15 years played with the band at Arabic events in Belgium, France, Germany and The Netherlands. At 26, she began to study bellydance intensively with Serkan Tutar (international Turkish male bellydancer), and in 2015 she won 2nd place in the folk dance competition at Rakass Istanbul International Festival. Since arriving in Boston in January 2014, she has dedicated her life to dance. She currently performs and plays music with Atlas Soul (North African music), Club Mediteranee (Arabic and Balkan music) and gives solo raqs sharki performances at weddings and events around New England. She said:" For me, dancing means language. It is my way to share my culture and keep the Arabic woman in me alive"

Natassia of Boston:
Natassia LOVES belly dance in all its shapes and forms. She has been studying obsessively ever since the dance fell into her lap one faithful night in 2011. Since then she has dedicated almost every waking moment of her existence to this art form, trying to find understanding in all its deepness and beauty. She has taken every opportunity she can to study with dancers who inspire her. Natassia has been a dedicated student of Serene and Erzulie of Boston, and has had the privilege to study with so many teachers she can't even count. Some notable teachers who have made a huge difference in her studies are Azmara, Amar Gamal, Khaled Mahmoud, Yasmina Ramzy, Zoe Jakes, Donna Mejia, Lubna Emam, Samer Fares, Rachel Brice, Bevin Victoria, Shadia Tohme, and her two favorites Soumaya MaRose and Jackie "Mccracky".
